Biomaterial Company - Branding and Material Research
2023
Encore! Biomaterials is a startup focused on removing or replacing single-use plastics in packagings with a composite material made from beer dregs and coffee.
The startup is led by young founders Nicolas Jourdan-Gassin and Alexandre Savard. The couple came to me with an established product and a strong idea of a logo in the form of a megaphone called ENCORE!, signifying the second life of objects, their encore… The team was inspired by manifestations and political chants, theatrical /musical influences, and thus came about the megaphone idea.
The biomaterial is created through sourcing of beer dregs from local breweries, repurposing it into the composite, and then reselling it back to the breweries to use as coasters; drinking a beer on a beer. The company’s material is then able to be composted into a flower pot - for example, and repurposed for yet another time in an extremely sustainable cradle-to-grave cycle.
