Naval Ships and EMECO, thank you for pointing me towards design.


The Naval Side Table is entirely based on indestructible EMECO designs. While Emeco makes their products in aluminium and have 70 step treatments unavailable to me for finishing, the process of hand made, solid, and “made for destruction” was the inspiration behind this. As a kid I loved boats and ships, and I ended up living by the ocean for many years spending countless hours on boats. I then discovered naval ships and the interiors of these ships - solid metal everywhere, lightweight furniture, floating devices everywhere; what an unbelievable environment. 

I wanted to make an ode to these spaces - and to Emeco. They showed me that design is not always luxury and beauty. Design is pure engineering sometimes. Pure function, and pure sustainability. The naval side table is made for that and that only. Its shape is meerly for structural integrity, and its materials are chosen only for its life-cycle.
