WAR ON PLASTIC

Ink Jet, Wheatpaste, Reused Plywood
2021-22

Exposed at the FLUX Exhibit, 2022.

Designed with inspirations of street art. Growing up in Paris, a large part of my childhood was spent fascinating over street art and graffiti; Banksy was always a fun one to see.  As I grew older, I began to more closely understand the political agenda and social commentary in the art. I aimed to reimagine his “Rage the Flower Thrower” with guerilla art againt plastic consumption.

The work was an original design made in 2021 aimed at creating a war poster to protest plastic consumption. Clarendon; used in WW2 for propaganda posters, and more familiarly recognized with Uncle Sam was a typeface meant to pyschologically convey the need for war.

The work was redone a year later after being admitted to the FLUX exhibit. I this time aimed to bring a physical medium to the work. Using wheatpasted A3 sheets in a repetitive format made the work feel part of a pysical realm; one like a subway wall, or a street corner - a real intervention like it was taken right off of the street.
